Week 8
Good afternoon and welcome to week 8!!
This is a busy week for Year 3M.
In literacy we are finishing our unit on information reports and starting Poetry.
In Maths, we have commenced a large unit in which we are applying our measuring and mapping skills, as well as our teamwork and communications skills. Over the coming week, students in groups will be surveying the senior school to produce their own maps of the school buildings and paved areas. Students are expected to not only measure the buildings, they will need to transpose these measurements onto a mud map which they will use to produce a scale map. The students will be given the opportunity to use a number of measuring devices including meter rulers, measuring tapes and trundle wheels. This is a big ask of the kids, but one they are already showing they are enjoying.
Shoebox Donations - If you can pretty please make sure that these items are in by this Friday (7th September)...this is such an amazing cause and all contributions are greatly appreciated!
Sports carnival - This Friday is our athletics carnival, however we also have throws on Wednesday and jumps on Thursday this week. If you are able to help out on either day, please let me know as your help will be greatly appreciated!
Reconciliation Parent Meeting Workshop - This will be held for 3M on Thursday 6th September beginning at 5pm. Attendance at this meeting is compulsory for those students that are receiving this Sacrament. If you and your child are unable to attend, you will need to make an appointment with Fr Ian to go through the program.
Reconciliation Enrollment Mass - This Saturday is our Reconciliation Enrollment Mass. Mass will commence at 6pm at Our Lady of the Southern Cross Church. Attendance at this meeting is compulsory for those students that are receiving this Sacrament.

HOMEWORK - WEEK 8
Reading -Please make sure that your child is reading out loud to you each night. This is an important skill in helping them to decode unfamiliar words and to attend to meaning - this means that they realise that what they are reading may not make sense if they have changed/missed/substituted a word. It is great if your child loves to read whilst they are getting ready for bed and I strongly encourage this reading for pleasure...please make sure that both is happening.
Spelling - Students are to complete a LCWC of their list words for the week. These are review words for this week as they will be tested on the words covered over the past months - a quick run through for your child would be great for their confidence!
Sight Words - If you can please work with your child to complete these every night.
Mental Maths - Students are to complete Days 1-4 of Unit 25. This is marked daily in class each morning. It is fine if students work ahead on this.
Times Tables - Activity Sheet - 4 Times Tables. Students are asked to write out their tables in order on Monday and Tuesday nights and then complete them out of order on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
