Week 4

Welcome to week 4.

This week we are focused on becoming experts as we write our informative texts. In reading, we are looking at identifying the key information to also help with our reports.  In maths, we are exploring mass and how we measure and estimate an objects mass.  We will also be exploring number patterns.

In science we are working on how we can estimate and measure temperature.

REMINDERS - WEEK 4

Mission Markets - Next Wednesday we will be celebrating our Feast Day, commencing with Mass at Our Lady of the Bay. Please see http://year3molc.blogspot.com/2018/08/olc-feast-day-15th-august.html for further information

Stationery Items - Many students are getting low in their stationery supplies.  Please ask your child in they need any as many students have no glue, exercise books, scissors or pencils.  Also, although stationery such as Smiggle is funky and colourful, please remind your child that is for  completing assigned tasks and should not be a distraction to those around them.

Sight Words - Please assist you child by setting time aside to practice this week. Remember, students need to be able to read and write the sight words.

Personal Spelling List - Some students (who have completed the sight word Program) will be bringing home their personal spelling list (in place of sight words).  These are words they have misspelled in their writing during the week and therefore need attention.  Please support your child to practice spelling these through the LCSWC format similar to their spelling words.

Reading Books - Please make sure students are reading their school readers multiple times, which exposes them to familiar words and gives them confidence to read. Further, reading aloud is best so that they can hear the words they are reading, checking if they are correct.  Please assist your child by setting aside at least 10 minutes per night to read aloud.

Reading Log - Last week there was a large increase in the number of people using their reading logs.  Great work, please lets keep going with this.

School Uniforms - We know these can be an onerous and expensive task and I appreciate your efforts to send the students to class in the right uniform but there are a few things that need to be tidied up (further information is available at http://www.ladyofcape.wa.edu.au/parentinfo.html ):
  • Black Jackets - these are to be worn over the top of the green school jumpers only and are not to be worn in class. If there are extenuating circumstances, a note is to be given to Mr Wilkie as soon as possible.
  • Hair Styles - if your child's hair is longer than their collar it must be tied up. This is the same for both boys and girls. Fringes must be pinned back or tied up if they fall into the face...I am spending a fortune on hair ties and pins at the moment.
  • Sneakers - as per our current policy, please make sure that your child is wearing sneakers that are predominantly white or light grey with plain white ankle socks. There should be no visible logos from sport, surf or skate brands on socks.
  • School shoes - please ensure your child is in the correct black lace up school shoes, not sneakers.
  • Jewelry - these are to be kept simple and at a minimum. No leather or bali style bands are to be worn around the wrist or ankles.

HOMEWORK - WEEK 4

Reading - All reading is to be written into their reading log, including the name of the book and number of pages and then signed by you.

Spelling - Students are to complete a LCWC of their list words for the week.

Sight Words/Personal Spelling List - If you can please work with your child to complete these every night.

Mental Maths - Students are to complete Days 1-4 of Unit 22 This is marked daily in class each morning. It is fine if students work ahead on this.

Times Tables - Activity Sheet - 4 Times Tables. Students are asked to write out their tables in order on Monday and Tuesday nights and then complete them out of order on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
