Week 6

Good morning parents,

Welcome to week 6...I am sure that you are all exhausted after a very busy fete weekend! Thank you to our class reps for all their hard work coordinating everything and a huge thank you to you all for all your hard work!

REMINDERS - WEEK 6

Sickness - You may have heard about Gastro going around.  I have not had any reports from within the class, but the dreaded tummy bug has started to make the rounds here at OLC after having a huge impact at Dunsborough Primary. I am very mindful of how unpleasant this can be to be sick in this way at school so please know that if your child comes to me to mention that they are feeling unwell in the tummy I will ask Mrs Marrell to ring you. I would hate to ask them to wait and then for them to be sick. I am reminding the students to be washing their hands before they eat in an attempt to limit the spread.

I do know that it can be very hard to organise at times, but I ask you to keep your child at home if they have experienced any associated symptoms to limit the spread of this highly contagious illness!

Fr Ian Farewell Mass - We will be having a whole school mass on Friday morning beginning at 9am. If you are able to attend we would love to see you!

OUR LEARNING

We have had a great time in Design Technology looking at the properties of materials and how and why they are selected to make things.

The students made 'Flic Flacs' with a partner and we had a competition to see whose flic flac could fly the highest! It was great fun! This lead us into a discussion about choosing materials that are fit for purpose but are also tough enough to last.

In writing we have begun looking at writing Procedures and we have discussed its purpose and structure. The students had a chance to colour code a good example of a procedure to refer back to when they begin planning and writing their own.

In maths we have begun looking at Fractions after finishing up our angles and money units. We have had great time looking at different items and how we can use the terms 'numerator' and 'denominator'.

HOMEWORK
Reading - If you can please make sure that your child is reading out loud to you each night.

Spelling - Students are to complete a LCWC of their list words for the week.

Sight Words - If you can please work with your child to complete these every night if they are still working through them.

Mental Maths - Students are to complete their 5 times tables activity sheet. This is to be worked on over the week and will be marked on Friday morning.

Have a great week!

Mr Mc
